No "Business User" Allowed: How to Properly Manage Your Facebook Page

If you've recently tried to set up a "Business User" account to manage a Facebook Business Page, you might have hit a roadblock. Many users assume they can create a separate account for business purposes, but this actually violates Facebook’s Terms of Service (TOS

—which could result in your account getting restricted, disabled, or even permanently banned.

In this post, we'll explain why Facebook doesn’t allow "Business User" accounts, what happens if you try to create one, and what you should do instead to properly manage your business presence on Facebook.

Why You Can’t Create a Separate "Business User" for Facebook

Facebook’s Terms of Service clearly state that each person is only allowed to have one personal account. That personal account is what Facebook uses to verify your identity and ensure authenticity across its platform.

In Section 3.1 - Who Can Use Facebook, Meta explicitly requires that users:

  • Use their real name—the same name they use in everyday life.

  • Provide accurate personal information—ensuring all accounts are tied to real individuals.

  • Create only one account—personal accounts cannot be duplicated, and each user must maintain just one.

  • Use Facebook for personal purposes—business management must be done through Business Manager, not a separate personal account.

By violating these rules and creating a "Business User" profile, you risk having the account flagged as inauthentic. Facebook’s automated systems are designed to detect duplicate or fake accounts, often leading to suspension, restricted access, or permanent bans.

Here’s why Facebook doesn’t allow business-only accounts:

  • Prevents fake accounts & spam – Facebook wants real people, not fake profiles, managing pages.

  • Maintains platform security – Personal accounts help ensure transparency and prevent fraudulent activity.

  • Ensures accountability – Facebook wants businesses to be managed by real people who can be held responsible for their actions.

If Facebook detects a "business user" account (an account that isn't tied to a real person), they may disable or restrict it without warning—leaving you locked out of your business page.

What Happens If You Try to Create a "Business User"?

Many users think they can create a fake personal account (e.g., "John’s Business") to manage a business page, but this often leads to account suspension. If Facebook detects that your profile is not tied to a real person, you might experience:

  • Limited access to your page – You won’t be able to post or manage ads.

  • Account suspension – Facebook may require you to verify your identity.

  • Page ownership issues – If your fake account is removed, you could lose access to your Business Page entirely.

These risks make it clear: managing a Facebook Business Page the right way is essential to protecting your business.

How to Properly Manage a Facebook Business Page

Instead of trying to create a separate "Business User" account, follow these steps to properly manage your page:

1. Use Facebook Business Manager

  • Go to Meta Business Manager and set up a Business Account.

  • Assign your real personal Facebook account as the admin of your Business Page.

2. Add Additional Page Admins (If Needed)

  • If multiple people need access to your Business Page, assign them as admins through Business Manager instead of sharing login details.

  • Go to Settings > Page Roles

    • Add trusted team members using their real Facebook accounts

3. Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

  • Protect your account by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) to prevent unauthorized access.
